Frequently asked questions

How accurate is this estimate?

It uses today's live gold rate and the weight, purity, and making charge you enter for each piece — the same formula a jeweller's bill uses. The actual number can still differ based on exact design, wastage, and the rate on your purchase day.

Why is my jeweller's quote different from this estimate?

Jewellers vary in making charges, wastage, and how intricate a design is to craft. Some also quote gross weight (including stones) rather than net gold weight. Compare the assumptions, not just the final number.

Is GST charged on making charges?

Yes. India's 3% GST applies to the gold value plus making charges combined, not the gold value alone. This planner applies GST the same way, per item.

What is the difference between a tola, a sovereign (pavan), and a gram?

A gram is the base metric unit. One tola equals 11.6638 grams. One sovereign or pavan, common in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, equals 8 grams. This planner shows all three for every item and the total.

Should I buy now or wait for the wedding date?

Gold rates move daily, so there's no universally right answer. Re-check this planner closer to your wedding date with the live rate at that time, and decide based on your own risk comfort — this tool doesn't recommend a buying strategy.

Does the plan include stones and diamonds?

You can add a manual stone/diamond/polki charge per item. The gold weight you enter should be net gold weight only, excluding stone weight.
