Frequently asked questions
Why is my resale value less than what I'd pay to buy the same gold?
The rate you see everywhere is the base metal price. Buying jewellery adds making charges and GST on top of that; selling it back typically involves a deduction for purity re-verification, wear, and the jeweller's own margin. The gap between buy and sell prices is normal, not a sign you're being cheated — but the size of that gap varies a lot by jeweller, which is worth comparing.
Is the deduction percentage shown here official?
No — it's an illustrative starting point, not a fixed or regulated figure. There's no standard deduction rate for old-gold exchange in India; it's negotiated jeweller by jeweller. Use this calculator to understand the shape of the calculation, then get an actual quote before you sell.
Does purity affect how much I get back?
Yes, directly — resale value is weight × purity factor × the live rate, before any deduction. A 22K piece and an 18K piece of the same weight are genuinely worth different amounts because they contain different amounts of actual gold. If your piece is hallmarked, its stamped purity is what a jeweller should use for this calculation.
