Where this rate comes from
GoldAPI.io spot price (with an automatic fallback provider if unavailable), converted to INR at the USD → INR exchange rate on the day of refresh, plus an estimated 15% India gold premium (import duty, IGST, and local bullion-market rate) — raw international spot alone runs well below what Indian jewellers actually quote.
Refreshed once daily, early in the morning (around 6 am IST) — the timestamp above is the exact time of that last refresh. Gold can move after it, so confirm the rate with your jeweller at the time of purchase.
24K = 99.9% pure gold. 22K and 18K are derived from that same 24K price at 91.6% and 75% purity.
Making charges, wastage, and GST are excluded — jewellers add these separately, and they vary by state and design.

What decides gold rates in India
International spot price
Gold is priced off the international spot rate set on exchanges like COMEX and the London bullion market, which moves throughout the trading day.
USD → INR, plus an India premium
That USD price converts to INR at the prevailing exchange rate, then adds an estimated premium for import duty and the local bullion-market rate — otherwise the number would run well below what Indian jewellers actually quote.
Excludes making charges, wastage, GST
The rate shown is the estimated base metal price only. Jewellers add making charges, wastage, and GST separately, and those vary by state and by design.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the gold rate change every day?
Gold is priced off the international spot rate (set on exchanges like COMEX and the London bullion market), which moves throughout the trading day. That USD price is then converted to INR using the prevailing exchange rate, so a stronger or weaker rupee shifts the local rate even on a day the international price barely moves. An estimated India premium (import duty, IGST, and local bullion-market rate) is added on top so the number reflects what's actually quoted in India, not just raw international spot.
Why is this rate different from raw international gold spot price?
International spot price, converted straight to INR, runs well below what Indian jewellers and IBJA quote — it doesn't account for import duty, IGST, or the local bullion-market premium. We add a disclosed, periodically-reviewed estimate for that gap so the rate here is closer to what you'd actually be quoted, rather than a technically-real but practically-misleading spot conversion.
What's the difference between 24K, 22K, and 18K gold?
It's the purity: 24K is 99.9% pure gold, 22K is 91.6%, and 18K is 75%. Jewellery is rarely made in 24K since pure gold is too soft — 22K and 18K trade some purity for durability, which is also why they're priced lower per gram than 24K.
Does this rate include making charges and GST?
No — the rate shown here is the base metal price only. Jewellers add making charges (which vary by design and by state) and a flat 3% GST on top. Use the jewellery calculator to see the full breakdown for a specific weight and purity.
Break out making charges & GST →Is the rate shown here the same as in stores?
It's the same underlying market rate, but the price you're quoted in a store will be higher once making charges, wastage, and GST are added — and those additions vary by jeweller and by state.
How do I verify a jeweller's gold rate is fair before buying?
Compare the rate they quote against the rate shown above for the same karat, then use the jewellery calculator to check that making charges, wastage, and GST are applied correctly on top of it. A fair quote should be traceable back to these known inputs, not a flat, unexplained number.
